School Based Workshops
Supplementary School
The Supplementary School runs on Saturdays during term time from 11am - 1pm
for young people aged 12-16. We also provide a programme of educational activities for primary pupils aged 8-11 during school holidays.

We provide an exciting and diverse range of learning opportunities, which includes film, history and creative arts projects, all rooted in a curriculum exploring
Black, Asian and Minority Ethnic culture, heritage and identity.

Our young people are the centre of the programme and are regularly consulted to ensure the projects we deliver reflect who they are.

School Based Mentoring
Our mentoring programme provides targeted mentoring support for
black and minority ethnic children and young people in both primary and secondary schools.
Mentors provide positive role models able to develop supportive relationships with students to help them address a range of issues and needs related to their education and social and emotional well being.
Schools, parents and students have reported the positive difference that our mentoring can make to children and young people, in relation to their academic achievement, engagement with education, behaviour, attendance,
confidence and self esteem, resilience, sense of identity and belonging.

Staff and Governor Training
We provide training for staff and governors in primary and secondary schools on race equality and
education. Our training supports your school to engage with and explore the issues of race, ethnicity,
equality, diversity, culture and identity within the school setting. It aims to ensure that
schools are more effective in actively understanding, addressing and promoting race equality
and supporting all pupils to develop, achieve and reach their potential.

Advice and Advocacy
We provide a free advice, information and advocacy service for parents and carers in relation to their child’s education. This includes support on race equality and education, school choice and school admission appeals, educational achievement, school exclusion and exclusion appeals, behaviour and attendance, special educational needs and disability, and making a complaint.

Report Incidents of Discrimination
The Black Families Education Support Group works in partnership with the Local Authority to ensure young people aged 11-18 can report incidents of discrimination directly and access the appropriate support. To report an incident of discrimination use the RID Reporting Form on the council website https://www.bathnes.gov.uk/report-incidents-discrimination-rid-service-students
